Dear Gardening Friends,

Welcome to our new website!!! We’re sure excited about this new way to share our business and gardens with you. We hope you like seeing our plant offerings, and will come visit us to get ideas to design, plant, and maintain your own gardens.

NEW GREENHOUSE—The website isn’t the only new thing about MYRTLE TREE. When you come, you’ll find we have a new greenhouse addition to our SWEET MYRTLE GIFT SHOP that we hope will delight and inspire you. Filled with garden-ware and plants, our gift shop will have more of those great items you need to help make your garden beautiful!

CONTAINER GARDENING—This year we plan to focus more on perennials, not only for your gardens, but also for use in containers. Container gardening is very exciting and perennials are perfect plants for them, and at the end of the season they can be added to the garden. We’ll be glad to show you the wide variety of perennials that can be used in containers for you can use at the cemetery, on decks, porches and patios and around your house at the entrances and even in your gardens.

OPENING DAY—We will open on May 28th, 2008, which is a bit later than we like but one cannot argue with mother nature. We are busy getting the grounds ready, and cannot wait to open up and assist you in your gardening projects.

Our hours are Monday-Saturday: 9:00-6:00, and Sundays 12:00-5:00.
OPEN HOUSE—This year’s Open House is FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY, JUNE 6,7,&8th., shop hours. We look forward again to a great weekend, good food (Skip’s great chili) and music in the garden on Sunday afternoon. As always, we will have knowledgeable staff on hand to answer your gardening and plan questions.

PLANT SELECTIONS—At Myrtle Tree you will find all your favorite heirloom perennials and many new ones. Whether you are adding to an existing garden or beginning a whole new garden, you’ll find just the right plants, shrubbery, trees, vines and fruits right here along with all the information you’ll need to grow them. We hope you’ll find the descriptions and photos we have provided helpful in choosing plants for your landscape. If there are plants you want and can’t find them in our catalog, please ask, we may have it or can find it for you.

We continue to have the largest selection of herbs and everlastings in The County! We also carry specialty annuals and some vegetables. We have lovely moss baskets and wallhangings in English Tradition.

The PERENNIAL OF THE YEAR is Geranium X Rozanne, which is not hardy here in northern Maine, but as a substitute I have picked another blue Geranium called x Philippe Vapelle, Height 10”, large, velvety blue-gray foliage creates interest all season, long flowering period, beautiful small-scale ground cover, outstanding as a garden accent or planted at garden’s edge.

The HOSTA OF THE YEAR is Blue Mouse Ears, makes a 1’ wide mound of small, round, blue-green leaves, short spikes of lovely lavender flowers in early summer, a collector’s Hosta!

SOILS- this year at MYRTLE TREE, we have soils and soil amendments. Again we will carry WINTERWOOD products, as many have found how great their gardens grow with it. And you can trust us to plant in sustainable soils.

GARDEN LANDSCAPE SERVICES—are available. We will help you design your gardens. This year we are also offering planting services. We can also help you find services that we don’t provide, like hauling soil and building stone walls.

PERENNIAL GARDENING CLASSES—Join us for Perennial Gardening Classes on Thursday evenings in June starting the 12th to the 26th at 5:30 -7:30pm. It is a basic Landscape design course with a special garden tour planned at the end. See the web page for more info.
